“This above all: To thine own self be true. And it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man [woman, or child].” ~Wm Shakespeare, Hamlet Act One

Lotus Flower

Lotus Flower, Symbol of Spiritual Awakening

Today, with all the confusion wrought by our current presidential election campaigns, for those of us who traverse the less-travelled road to the Truth within us, and have realized it, the above truism from the Bard (“To thine own self be true…”) is forever inspiring.

To know the Truth within us is to know who we really are. Thus, we are loathe to relinquish the gift of Truth, which is of God!

Without the Truth we are nothing. Thus, destined to accept life’s illusions no matter how glorified or dismal it seems.

That is: Until we tire of the endless unhappiness that reliance on established illusions will surly bring, and seek the promise of our True Self that illuminates the world around us.

Of course, the Truth is forever calling to us. Perhaps this is why we ultimately hate those who insist upon lying to us. Particularly those seeking influence over our daily lives, this being tantamount to denying our highest purpose in life. Which is to join with other souls and extend real abundance (love) to all without spiritual cost to none.

Truth Illuminates, Lies Darken

To accept the Truth as our Inner Guide is to ultimately realize the value of true happiness and inner peace.

Hence: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” ~Jesus the Christ (John: 8:32)

In the political realm where society’s laws are ultimately created, some woefully misguided Americans tend to scoff at the idea of a so-called “democratic socialist” daring to run for U.S. president with the realistic intent to restore our failing democracy.

Yet, lest we not forget: Truth illuminates the world, lies darken it. Hence, why thousands of people continue showing up at Bernie Sanders’ historic campaign rallies.

Are Hillary and the Donald of the Same Ilk?

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. (Justin Lane, Andrew Gombert, European Pressphoto Agency)

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. (Justin Lane, Andrew Gombert, European Pressphoto)

Having an obvious aversion to transparency (the truth), could it be that Hillary and the Donald have more in common than most of their ardent supporters care to think? Having the same purpose, could it be that they’re closer than the opposite sides of the same coin?

Arguably, most people tend to embellish or even obscure certain facts now and then. Yet, a truly honest and mature person not only values the truth, but actually hates lying.

While it is beyond the scope of this article to determine why some folks tend to avoid the truth; yet, based on their public demeanor, seems both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are afraid of the truth. As a result, they resist transparency like the plague, or so it appears.

Of course, the habitual need for secrecy is a dangerous attribute, particularly in a world leader!

With Donald Trump, his familiar bully persona and endless chatter seems to be his main defense against the truth. This was abundantly clear during the GOP primary debates where he delivered vicious insult after insult rather than truthfully answer questions posed by the moderator or his fellow debaters. Recently, his alleged retort concerning his tax rate (a forty-year tradition of presidential candidates) was: “none of your business!”

While Hillary Clinton’s dangerous obsession with secrecy is legendary: Consider the FBI”s current investigation of her secret email server as Sec of State, her refusal to produce transcripts of her lucrative Wall Street Speeches (from which reporters were barred), and the press’s ever shrinking access to her. Last April 24th on CNN’s Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter, here, a source stated with noticeable trepidation that:

“Clinton travels on her own plane. The reporters travel on a separate plane. They’re often spending the night in different cities. [And] fundraisers are completely closed to the media.” Clearly a departure from traditional campaigns: “To be able to have a conversation with a candidate on the plane going from one campaign to another, that doesn’t exist anymore,” lamented the source.

As to the Trump campaign, here, the reliable source basically says: “The reporters who cover [Trump] have very little access to him at all. And something that exists in the Trump campaign that isn’t the case with Clinton, is there’s almost a hostility toward the press. The reporters are kept in a pen, usually pretty far from the candidates. Often with police barricades around it.”

Sadly, seems Trump’s alleged hostility toward the press is typical of his defense against the truth. Yet, a bubbly Clintonesque persona can be just as hostile as an abrasive Trump persona. Hence, the mournful destruction of a mild-mannered con artist!

“The Year of the Hated”

Hatred (a deep sense of loss) can be a vital signal when properly seen as a warning sign. But, we must think and act wisely, then let it go (forgive) lest we be consumed by it.

Thankfully, despite the lack of objectivity that some reporters (though certainly not all) in the Media seem to exhibit during their political news coverage, the printed news media is still publishing good stories that are worthy of its time-honored profession. A profession our free society must surly rely on in order to be free.

Though some television reporters have generally mentioned the public’s disdain for certain presidential candidates, in this Washington Post article titled: “The year of the hated: Clinton and Trump, two intensely disliked candidates, begin their face-off” by David Weigel, posted May 8, we find an objective view of the public’s thoughts and feelings about the current presidential frontrunners, which is very insightful.

In general, though their unfavorable ratings are high, supporters of both Hillary and Trump seem totally oblivious to the sentiments of the rest of society. Yet, according to the Real Clear Politics averages: “Trump has an unfavorable rating of 65 percent. Clinton has 55 percent.”

Nonetheless, widely enabled (to the exclusion of others) by the Media he allegedly treats with contempt, Trump wins the Republican Indiana Primary, much to his apparent surprise.

His final challengers, Sen. Cruz of Texas and Gov. Kasich of Ohio, soon concede and Donald Trump becomes the “presumptive nominee” of the Republican Party. Though absent the usual fan-fare from the GOP establishment.

Bernie Sanders wins the Democratic Indiana Primary, and vows to continue until all voters in the remaining primaries have voted! In conclusion, the above Washington Post article (“The Year of the Hated…”) aptly notes:

“The socialist from Vermont was the only candidate for president not disliked by a majority of voters.” And so, the Democratic Primaries between Bernie and Hillary continues.

“Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil”

Lezley McSpadden and Neighbors, New York Times

A grieving Lezley McSpadden and Neighbors, New York Times

Those who hate lying usually hate being lied too, which is a form of self-preservation.

Lezley McSpadden begins her memoire by saying: “First off, I don’t tell lies because I can’t keep up with them. My grandmother always said, “Don’t lie. Tell the truth and shame the devil.” She then says: “Your word is what you still got when you don’t have any money.”

Lezley, Michael’s mother, has recently published a memoire titled, “Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil: The Life, Legacy, and Love of My Son Michael Brown.”   Mike Mike, as she likes to call him, was an unarmed African-American teenager living in Ferguson Missouri who was shot multiple times by then police officer Darren Wilson on August 14, 2014.

Sadly, Darren Wilson has yet to be tried for Michael Brown’s murder. Truly, a missed opportunity to uphold justice in a society that is slowly declining for lack of criminal and economic justice, he likely won’t be tried in a criminal court.

Having discredited most of the eye witnesses, including Brown’s companion, an African American male who was with him when then Officer Wilson stopped them for walking in the street and ultimately shot Michael Brown to death, the Department of Justice decided not to indict Darren Wilson.

Hoping for some justice, a civil action is pending on behalf of Mike Brown’s aggrieved family. And the oft-painful quest for justice in our society continues.

President Obama and the BLM Movement

Having recently excused Secty Hillary Clinton’s secret email server as “carelessness” during an exclusive interview with Fox News last April, could it be that President Obama is actually a closeted Clinton supporter?

Sadly, President Obama, who seems a Hillary Clinton supporter more often than not, has directly or indirectly spoken out against advocates of the Black Lives Matter Movement (“BLM”) that once interrupted a fancy Hillary Clinton fundraiser much to her chagrin.

While he appears in favor of another devastating Clinton presidency (Heaven forbid!), President Obama seems to belittle the BLM Movement in the process.

Last April during a town hall type meeting with young people in London, Pres. Obama states among other things (see article “Obama Says Movements like Black Lives Matter Can’t ‘Just Keep on Yelling’” New York Times, April 24) that:

Once you’ve highlighted an issue and brought it to people’s attention and shined a spotlight, and elected officials or people who are in a position to start bringing about change are ready to sit down with you, then you can’t just keep on yelling at them,” Mr. Obama said.

On Saturday May 7 during “Obama’s Full Remarks At Howard University Commencement Ceremony,” published by Politico, the President rightly states:

“You see, change requires more than righteous anger. It requires a program, and it requires organizing,” said President Obama.

Yet, even as we write and with all due respect to President Obama’s ongoing efforts to stop police brutality, according to glaring news reports daily: Black folks, in particular, are still being needlessly detained by unfair police officers (some downright psychotic), raped, cavity searched on the streets, shot multiple times with no chance of survival, and otherwise severely brutalized just because some officers feel they are above the law!

Lest we not forget: It was Hillary Clinton who coined the toxic phrase “superpredator” relative to mostly young Black males who were the target of her husband’s contentious 1994 Crime Bill, which she strongly advocated for. Sadly, this terrible law virtually gutted the humane education of prisoners, wrongly justified lucrative private prisons, and caused the mass incarceration of marginalized Black and Brown citizens that devastated families and communities, from which many are still reeling.

And while Clinton has seemly apologized for saying such, Hillary that is, Bill continues to explicitly justify the “superpredator” term, the Clintons are far from convincing rational voters that things would actually change if they get another chance as president, God forbid!

Mr. President, Sometimes We Just Have to Yell!

Albeit it “politically incorrect,” clearly the BLM is bent on reminding voters of the Clinton 1994 Crime Bill initiative that continues to fuel deadly police brutality towards African Americans in particular without stop. In short, they just don’t want to be killed by another psychotic police officer!

When, after all is said and done, and terrible things continue to remain the same: Well, Mr. Pres, sometimes we just have to yell. And we can’t much blame the BLM Movement for that.

Truth and Justice for all is always a possibility within reach. Thus, we must never be fooled or otherwise sidetracked by the naysayers.

And so the 2016 race for the White House and a More Perfect Union continues.

“I run not to oppose any man or woman, but to propose new and far-reaching policies to deal with the crises of our times. And I run because I know we must change course now, or risk losing the future for so many to the interests of so few.”   ~ Sen. Bernie Sanders

Sen. Bernie Sanders & "Birdie" Sanders

Sen. Bernie Sanders & “Birdie” Sanders

As Sen. Bernie Sanders speaks to his exuberant supporters in Portland, Oregon, March 25, also on Good Friday, a little bird flies in and rests on his lectern. They look at each other for about 10 seconds and it gently flies away. The people jump up cheering with excitement. In the video, Bernie basically says that despite what it looks like, it’s a Dove of Peace saying no more wars, please. Since dubbed “Birdie Sanders,” today it seems the Universe is saying:

“Keep telling the truth Sen. Sanders, the people need to hear the truth. As only the truth can free them of all the lies and half-truths too many of their established leaders prefer to tell them.”

Never Be Fair to Your Adversary

Years ago, a very dear friend once told me: “Never be fair to your adversary.”

Today, this is still good advice, given the intense election process. For Sen. Sanders, it’s a matter of comparing the differences between them for the voters. For the Clinton camp that cries foul every time Bernie mentions her leadership shortcomings, it’s likely a sneaky defense tactic to shift the spotlight off of Hillary Clinton’s abysmal record. Of course, the GOP is well aware of her record and is ready and quite willing to use such against the Clinton’s (in spades) should Hillary make it to the general election.

Today on CNN, Fmr. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a national surrogate for Hillary Clinton, thinks Bernie Sanders should stay in the race, but tone down the rhetoric. Sadly something has gone terribly wrong here! Many of these high-profile Democrats aren’t playing fair, having pledged as “superdelegates” for Hillary Clinton long before the convention; and seem bent on winning at all costs.

Yet, they also seem mesmerized by their own rhetoric, expecting Hillary Clinton to actually be the Democratic nominee and that Bernie and his supporters will give up their quest for a better American life and support her. Ed Rendell also thinks we (Sanders’ supporters) should even form a Super PAC for them. Imagine that? During the Town Hall meetings and debates, I got the distinct impression from Hillary that that’s the way it is done in politics.

Sadly, They Just Don’t Get It.

News flash: this is not politics as usual! In view of it all, seems Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and others made one of those historic “back room deals” when she ran the last time and lost to Obama. You know, the old game: “You scratch my back and I scratch your back in return.” Now, I (and many others no doubt) understand why the doable progress Obama promised America eight years ago has yet to be realized! And why Hillary Clinton keeps saying, “I know how to do it.” Yeah sure! I shudder to think what she will give away under pressure.

Thus Things Have Radically Changed

The people are awake now, are tired of the terrible betrayals by both parties, and tired of being used by the billionaires and millionaires to pad their own pockets while disregarding the country and the people’s basic needs. Actually, this is the type of stuff that started the destructive revolts of the past. How sad is that. Hopefully that won’t happen here.

America is destined to be so much better than that! Thankfully, a different politician is on the scene now. And he’s telling it like it is, much to the chagrin of the establishment. Usually, at times such as this a special leader comes forth: A true leader who has the courage of his convictions, the life experience to get things done, the compassion to truly care about others, and the wisdom to discern between insatiable greed and real wealth for the good of all.

The candidate of whom I write is, of course, Sen. Bernie Sanders, a real agent for change who is not for sale! A change agent who is calling for a political revolution, one that is won not in the streets but at the ballot box!

Today on CNN with Jake Tapper, Bernie Sanders states this when asked: “Look, I’m focusing right now on dealing with why the middle class of this country continues to disappear, why we’re the only country on Earth, Jake, that doesn’t provide paid family and medical leave, why we don’t guarantee health care to all of our people. I was just in Baltimore yesterday. The level of poverty is unbelievable. We have to rebuild our inner cities. I think the American people want us to focus on the real issues impacting them, how their kids can afford to go to college, not worry at this point about who is going to be a vice presidential candidate.”

Hence, a vote for Bernie Sanders will surly set American life back on its right course.

Free the mind, educate yourself, think well before you vote, and do keep the faith!

“The biggest challenge of the day is: how to bring about a revolution of the heart, a revolution that has to start with each one of us.” ~Dorothy Day, www.catholicworker.org

Lotus Flower

The Lotus Flower, Symbol of Spiritual Awakening

Dear President Obama, I am writing you because you are also the head of the Democratic Party and the DNC (the Democratic Nat’l Committee).

Please know that I am unabashedly mad-as-hell about the DNC’s bogus reports of the so-called ‘Super Delegates’ count that are heavily in favor of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Thus, making her opponent, Bernie Sanders, seem far more behind than he actually is! Sadly, this very bad information is constantly being recycled in the Media.

As we have been informed, these super delegate counts are actually promises (or personal endorsements perhaps) that are subject to change prior to the official nomination at the Democratic convention! Thus, in truth, these nonbinding Super Delegates counts are very misleading and therefore should not be published as actual votes!

Toxic Anger or Righteous Indignation

Needless to say, I am very, very angry about this bogus delegate count reported by the DNC, and demand its correction immediately.

But first, let’s be clear on the subject of toxic anger versus righteous indignation. Toxic anger often seeks revenge that can be very destructive; this is not the intent here. In sharp contrast, righteous anger is often a great motivator that generally seeks to right a terrible wrong, which is our intent here.

For me, righteous indignation is best illustrated by our elder brother Jesus when he got mad at the traders doing business within the church. With a mighty sweep of his hand, he overturned their tables and basically threw the traders, their money and their wares out of the temple. He then says:

“It is written, my house shall be called a house of prayer; but you are making it a robbers’ den (Jesus the Christ, St. Matthew 21:12-13).”

Has Our Politics Become a ‘Robbers Den’ These Days?

Sadly, in many respects, seems today’s politics has become a gateway to gaining vast personal influence instead of significantly improving society as it was meant to be. Thus, our presidential elections seem more far desperate than ever, where civility and truthfulness has sometimes given over to intense duplicity, bullying, vulgarity and even violence … particularly at the recent rallies of some presidential candidates.

Yet, for many of us donating our little money to the Bernie Sanders campaign, that’s working hard to win this election and stop the further abuse of our economy, it often feels like our politics are indeed mired in a den of thieves. And so we remain more determined than ever to join with Sen. Sanders and help right this terrible wrong.

And we start by speaking the truth as we know it. In Phoenix Arizona on the second “Super Tuesday” of this primary season, Sen. Sanders tells us, his supporters, this:

“The reason that we have done as well as we have, the reason that we have defied all expectations, is that we are doing something very radical in American politics … we are telling the truth. And the truth is not always pleasant, is not always what we want to hear. But we cannot go forward unless we deal with the realities of American society today, and that is what we are going to do,” he said.

Discerning the Truth in Today’s Candidates?

Thankfully, the Media, with all of its human flaws, has actually done a good job in vetting our current candidates so far. Thus, we are now seeing the toxic candidate who resorts to bullying, racism, hate mongering and vulgarity when his inflated ego is threatened. We’ve seen the ambitious young candidate abandon the truth and flat-out tell lies about the other candidates or their surrogates. And we have seen the career politician, who’s made lots of powerful friends, pander to self-interest groups for a block of votes and such.

And, of course, we have seen evidence of the DNC’s misuse of the so-called delegate count which gives an impression of its favorite candidate being the presumptive primary winner.

Yet, the race to the White House continues and We-the-People must make the right decision as to whom we hire as our next U.S. President.

Whom Shall We Hire Indeed!

Though way too many of us, including some candidates and the media, tend to view the presidential race as a competitive sport rather than a life-altering decision we all must prayerfully make, still there exists today at least one among us who takes this calling very seriously. And has come forward without apologies, and is truly telling it like it is.

This, of course, is Sen. Bernie Sanders, whose working hard to awaken voters to the infinite wealth we all can share when We-the-People unite and save our democracy from the greed and corruption of the reckless millionaires and billionaires among us.

Actually, as I view it, there are two people, now considered the front-runners for our next U.S. President, who are very, very scary and clearly must not be hired.

For me, the legacy of the Bill Clinton presidency that virtually surrendered the keys to our economy in authorizing deregulation of Glass-Steagall (the 1930s Depression Era law meant to restrain investment banks), the 1994 Crime Bill that led to today’s mass incarceration of Black and Brown folks in particular and those nasty Trade Agreements (which Hillary allegedly touted) that led to loss of American jobs and devastated the Middle Class, Hillary’s dubious emails as Secretary of State, her lucrative Wall Street speeches, and her involvement in regime change in Libya and such, makes me very nervous about Hillary Clinton and exactly what she would “mistakenly” do as our president.

Thus, I have no confidence in the Hillary.

Though Hillary Clinton now says these powerful executive actions were mistakes, who in their right mind would hire anyone who has been the author of such catastrophic mistakes?

Next, in my opinion, Donald Trump, whose Goliath persona loves to taunt his adversaries, is way too aggressive and much too contrary for this job. As one known to overreact to the slightest perceived insult, he would never do as U. S. President. While he sometimes tells it like it is, which is good, the Donald’s toxic anger and schoolyard bullying would never be tolerated by the World Leaders who will match his inflated ego with an eye for an eye!

And the bloody war of the egos continues; only it’s our innocent children who will do the actual fighting and the dying. Hence, the meaning of this parable from Jesus, our beloved brother:

“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God” (St. Matthew 19:24).

Yet, the good news is, one day we will find that better way and gladly change. Why not today?

Meanwhile, daily life and the 2016 presidential race continues.

Free the Mind! And may the Truth be with us as we cast that precious vote.

Rep James Clyburn, D-SC

Rep James Clyburn, D-SC

“When someone shows you who they are believe them; the first time.” ~Maya Angelou

Recently in a televised phone interview, Rep James Clyburn, (D-SC), now a Hillary Clinton supporter for president tells Roland Martin, host of News One Now on TV One, that rival Bernie Sanders’ free public college plan would hurt Historical Black Colleges:

“If you say that you’re going to have college, free two-year college, among public institutions, why would a student go to an HBCU? What will happen is these HBCUs will all close down all across America because they would not be able to afford to stay open,” said Rep Clyburn.

A Wily Distraction Perhaps?

Oh, so the rest of the country should go without tuition free education to save HBCUs, thus making this a backward move instead of a progressive one? What a divisive thought, which seeks to undermine Bernie Sanders’ progressive plan toward free education for all Americans. A wily distraction indeed! How sad is that?

Though highly unlikely, what if “all” these HBCUs did close down as Rep Clyburn erroneously suggests? What if tuition free education would integrate a broad range of ethnic studies and thus heal the American mind of historic racism and other destructive biases? Indeed, what if the sky should fall Chicken Little?

Why the HBCUs Were Established

Yet, in view of it all, lest we not forget the main reason historical Black colleges were founded in the first place. In response to the segregation laws that immediately arose after Reconstruction abruptly ended (ca.1877), benevolent forces founded the HBCUs for the purpose of providing a higher education for the former slaves, who were now violently barred by law or local customs from free association with the White populace, and they with them.

Though racial segregation (then known as “Jim Crow”) has significantly ended and racism is slowly dying a painful death, the HBCUs have flourished nonetheless. Thus, thru it all, African American students have not only received a higher education, but a well-deserved sense of stability and cultural pride as well. Much like the other privately-funded Ivy League colleges and universities in the U.S., it is highly unlikely that these historic institutions will be closing anytime soon due to “tuition free” State colleges, which were prevalent in the Sixties.

Politics, Racism and the Law of Karma

Sadly, politicians actually created American racism that virtually began with William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, ca. 1681, who both owned slaves and allowed slavery in his provinces. A devout Quaker, Penn was also known for his kindness. Thus, unlike many other slaveholders, William Penn advocated humane treatment for African American slaves and Native Americans. Of course, many of the abolitionists were also Quakers, whose decades of toil ultimately brought about the abolishment of Western slavery, in which we all can be very proud.

While slavery has a long and very dark history in various cultures throughout the world, there is no viable excuse for Modern Americans to continue perpetuating racism, slavery’s offspring, so as to win elections and such. Sadly, they just don’t get it.

The Universal Law of Cause and Effect (Karma) is very impartial and it works, believe it or not. Yet, we can change! Hence the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would have others treat you.

The Bushes and the Clintons

Sadly, in the final analysis, neither President George W. Bush nor President Bill Clinton actually got it right.

Soon after G.W. Bush becomes president, he gives us a one-time tax-refund, which was not much but money in our pockets. Soon 9/11/2001, then follows the unfortunate Iraqi War that destroyed countless lives and property from which we are still reeling.

In his final hours as President, Bill Clinton signs off on legislation that virtually deregulates the 1932 Glass-Steagall Banking Act, a measure to restrain the investment banks from gambling with the people’s deposits and creating yet another Great Depression. Sadly, such unrestraint did take hold and virtually destroyed our national economy, including the lives of many.

According to reliable sources recently, Hillary Clinton has promised a boon of $25 million dollars to the HBCUs should she become the next president, go figure.

After hearing of Mrs. Clinton’s way too cozy connections with Wall Street, the lucrative speeches and such, I lost confidence in Hillary Clinton who once had my support.

Frankly, though God loves them, both a Clinton and a Bush retirement from politics would be a real gift to our society, and the world I might add. A vote for Bernie Sanders, the only candidate with a real vision for American life and good government, would be divine.

Feeling the Bern

Yes, I believe in the Bern, have hopped on that chariot and intend to ride it pass the finish line, and into the White House with all of his other ardent supporters. Thus, I believe in Bernie Sander’s platform that clearly states a practical solution to revitalizing our democracy.

A viable platform that finally summons We-the-People to help him and his future administration restore a much-needed balance in our government and in our society. The collective will of the people is, indeed, our greatest treasure after all.

Keep the Faith. And may the Truth be with us.

Feel the Bern in 2016!

An open question to Miss Monica Lewinsky: It’s hard to believe that you, Monica Lewinsky with sixteen years and a good education behind you, are still blaming others for your past dalliances with the then president of the United States, or so it appears. Are you truly sincere or are you simply trying to be relevant, as before when you deliberately pursued a very important person…a married man no less? While being a very important person is a good thing, if for the right reasons, must we, the public, continue to suffer your past mistakes dear Monica? Who knows, lack of self-forgiveness perhaps?

According to cable news today, Ms. Lewinsky is back again recapping her sorry affair with Bill Clinton. Hey, give it a rest Monica, indeed, give us a rest! After all, my dear girl, you are better than this, or can be.

In a speech in Philadelphia on Monday seeking to end cyber bullying, Lewinsky states the following as noted in a CNN article here:

“Sixteen years ago, fresh out of college, a 22-year-old intern in the White House, and more than averagely romantic, I fell in love with my boss in a 22-year old sort of way. It happens,” Lewinsky said. “But my boss was the president of the United States. That probably happens less often. Now I deeply regret it for many reasons, not the least of which is that people were hurt. And that is never okay.”

While there is no doubt that bullying can be quite painful to its victims and applaud Monica’s efforts to end it, I cannot go along with her self-delusions about being a 22 year old innocent in love with her boss, then bragging about him being “the president of the United States,” and then expressing regret in the same breath. No, this does not compute, plain and simple.

First, falling in love is a sad excuse for having the hots for one’s married boss, or anyone who is unavailable, and then acting upon it. If you truly love this person then be a good friend, if you can. But never abandon your self-esteem for fleeting moments of pleasure followed by subliminal shame, which ultimately brings a lot of heartache. After all, there is always BOB (“battery operated boyfriend,” as per Iyanla on OWN TV), waiting discreetly in that nightstand drawer if you don’t have a real boyfriend at the moment.

Next, at 22 years of age, most young women have good instincts and therefore well know the difference between being seduced and slyly becoming the seducer. I mean really. So playing the innocent ingénue at 40 plus years of age just ain’t going to fly no’mo!

So, my advice to Monica is really quite simple: forgive yourself so that you can let that mess go!

Meanwhile, peace and harmony, and do keep the faith.
